ACT Testing Announcement

Attention students and parents:

All 10th–12th grade students will be participating in the ACT assessment. The ACT is a college readiness exam that measures students’ skills in English, math, reading, and science. The results provide valuable information about students’ academic strengths and areas for growth.

At RISD, students are given the opportunity to take the ACT here on campus three times with the school paying the testing fees. Retesting allows students to improve their performance and increase scholarship opportunities.

Please note the following testing dates:

  • Wednesday, February 25 – 11th Grade

  • Thursday, February 26 – 12th Grade

  • Thursday, March 5 – 10th Grade

Students should arrive on time, well-rested, and prepared for testing. Additional details will be shared prior to each testing date.

Counselor Connections: Read-Alouds

One of the most meaningful ways I connect with our elementary students is through our monthly read-alouds. Stories have a powerful way of opening hearts, starting conversations, and helping children better understand themselves and others.

Each month, I select books that focus on important counseling topics such as kindness, friendship, respect, responsibility, empathy, emotional regulation, perseverance, and making positive choices. Through these stories, students see real-life situations they can relate to and learn healthy ways to respond to challenges.

Read-alouds create a safe and supportive space for students to talk about feelings, ask questions, and practice problem-solving skills. They also help normalize everyday struggles, like handling big emotions, resolving conflicts, or building confidence. Students learn they are not alone.

If you have any questions, please contact me at karen.lohman@rockspringsisd.net.

By addressing social-emotional skills in an engaging and age-appropriate way, we help students build a strong foundation not just for academic success, but for lifelong personal growth. I am so proud to support our students as I watch them grow through stories that inspire kindness, resilience, and positive decision-making.
